Youth Gardening Opportunities 2017
Volunteer at Needham Elementary, Animas Valley Elementary, and Florida Mesa Elementary to help plant their school garden in late May and help put the beds to rest for the winter in late October at Needham Elementary and Riverview Elementary.
Jr. Gardeners Summer Camp:
Summer Camp will be held at Needham Elementary for 3 weeks in the summer. Volunteers and presenters are needed throughout the camp.
Week 1: June 19th - June 23rd
Week 2: July 17th - July 21st
Week 3: July 31st - August 4th
School Garden Workdays:
School garden workdays are held June through August. Workday dates and times will be scheduled as needed during those months.
Garden Class Educators:
Throughout the 2017/2018 school year, The Garden Project is looking for volunteers to carry out garden lessons to students in Durango 9-R elementary schools. These lessons are tentatively scheduled to run November through May.
School Garden Committee Member:
Garden committees are made up parents, teachers, students, and community members. These committees are tasked with maintaining the garden, organizing work days, etc.
Food For Everyone Volunteer Opportunities 2017
Manna Soup Kitchen Garden Workdays:
Every Wednesday morning from 9:00am - 11:00am, April through October, the Manna garden holds a workday. Open to anyone all levels of gardening skills!
Produce Donation Pick ups:
Periodically through out the summer, the Manna Soup Kitchen will need volunteers to pick up produce from local farmers and gardeners to supply fresh veggies for The Manna Market Free Produce Stand.
Manna Market Free Produce Stand:
Wednesday evenings from 4:30pm - 6:00pm, June through October the Manna Soup Kitchen hosts a FREE produce stand for food insecure community members. Manna is looking for volunteers to help families in need by working the produce stand.
Community Volunteer Opportunities 2017
The second to last Sunday of the every month, May through October, the Ohana Kuleana Community Garden will host workdays.
The OK community garden is looking for experienced gardeners to mentor some of our newer gardeners.
The Garden Project's summer fundraiser, Tour de Farms, is a bicycle tour of local farms and gardens which will be held August 19th in Bayfield.
Apple Days Event Booth:
Apple Days is an event hosted by Growing Partners of The Southwest in October. Volunteers are needed to run our caramel apple booth from 9:00am - 4:00pm
Farmers Market Info Booth:
Throughout the Farmers Market season, volunteers are needed to promote The Garden Project.
