We celebrated the 9th Annual Tour de Farms, a bike tour highlighting what is unique, healthy and homegrown in our agricultural and gardening community.
Historically hosted by Growing Partners and CSU Extension, this year The Garden Project was honored to organize the tour with CSU Extension. The tour was sold out for both the short and long routes and we had over 100 folks participate!
The tour featured two options:
A 6-mile "Family Friendly" ride visiting backyard gardens, community gardens and farms in town including
Adobe House Farm,
the Ohana Kuleana Community Garden,
Will & Janet Rietveld's Backyard Garden,
Angelo and Madalena's Backyard Garden, and
United Methodist's Giving Garden.
A 25-mile leisurely ride visiting backyard gardens, farms and hoop houses in the Animas Valley featuring
Adobe House Farm,
Carver's Farm grown by Twin Buttes,
The Hoffman's Backyard Garden, and
Tim & Becky Turner's Backyard Garden.
We all enjoyed visiting local farms and talking with farmers about their joys and struggles providing food for our community.

We also got inspired the backyard gardens on the tour with ways we can enjoy the experience of growing some of our food.

Over all we left feeling more connected with our food system, our growers, and with our very special place here in the Animas Valley. And that was even before we all got to Ska Brewing for the after-party including a local lunch by Zia, commemorative pint glass (beer or root beer included), music by Six Dollar String Band, cupcakes from Serious Delights and delicious raspberry or peach ice cream made by Eric & Sarah Ryba.

Thanks so everyone who came out to support and celebrate our local food system all while riding bikes!
