Farm Tours
The Garden Project is compiling a list of interested farmers who would like to participate in farm tours for area schools and/or presentations to schools with a focus on hands on activities in school gardens. Thanks to funding from the USDA Community Food Project Grant and Growing Partners of SWCO, we now have some funding to help facilitate this effort by offering farmers a stipend to present at local schools.
Farmers who are interested, should contact Shari Fitzgerald, with The Garden Project of SWCO. We have created an easy to use questionnaire that will help us create profiles of available farm tours as well as a list of possible school presenters. Each profile includes a description of their farm, list of products, and examples of possible youth activities.
Thanks for your help. We hope the profiles will allow teachers to choose a farm that is convenient and conducive to their curriculum, and the information needed to schedule a field trip. Farm Tours are a great hands on way to teach our children the importance of local agriculture and a stronger connection to the food they eat!
