    We joined our local time bank! Hour Exchange La Plata (HELP) - Learn more about how your volunteer time with The Garden Project can count towards hours you can exchange for other services.

    volunteers.jpgVolunteers are an integral part of The Garden Project.  Every year volunteers provide over 1,500 hours of time at our school and community gardens. Volunteers are welcome at upcoming garden days, community events, or are welcome to create their own volunteer opportunities.  Always remember to check the website for cancellations (Colorado weather can cause some good intentions to change.) Organizations or groups who wish to volunteer should contact us directly to arrange a date.

    Lemony Red Lentil Soup

    WD_OKCG_Final_WDandPotluck_10.22.16-021.JPGI made this recipe for the Ohana Kuleana Community Garden POTLUCK in May. It's a favorite of mine right now. I found it in the "Thug Cookbook." Enjoy! - Mia

    Servings: 4 as a main or 6 as a side
    Cook Time: 25 minutes

    Ingredients:

    • 1 teaspoon olive oil
    • 1/2 – 1 onion, chopped 
    • 1 baking potato, peeled and cut in bite sizes 
    • 1 carrot, peeled and chopped
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 teaspoon coriander
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin (if you don’t have coriander use another 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin)
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 2 cups red lentils, rinsed
    • 6 cups vegetable broth
    • 1/2 teaspoon grated lemon zest
    • 1 tablespoon lemon juice ( I used the juice from 1 lemon)

    Welcome to the Ohana Kuleana Community Garden (OKCG)! We are headed into our 4th season at OKCG!

    The garden will officially open to gardeners Saturday, April 30th with a required orientation meeting for all members at 11am (please let me know if you cannot make it).

    A plot has already been reserved for your group by your Head Gardener (e.g. the person who filled out the application).

    In order to participate please sign up below and then you will be directed to another page to read and sign the garden bylaws and waiver.

  • 2016 OKCG Registration - For those applying for membership

    We are headed into our 4th season at the community garden!

    The garden will officially open to gardeners Saturday, April 30th with a required orientation meeting for all members at 11am.

    Membership fees are $75 per plot ($12.50/month!). Resources available to members include protection offered by the deer-fence, water and the irrigation system, communal tools, port-a-john, Education Pavilion, benches, compost, discounted monthly workshops, and a great community to grow and learn with! You will be asked to pay your member dues AFTER your spot at the garden is CONFIRMED by the Garden Manager.

    Please note square foot calculations are approximate and are not necessarily all rectangles. 

    • Full Plot (approx. 150 sf) - $75 +2 hours/month of volunteer time
    • Half Plot (approx. 75 sf) - $37 +2 hours/month of volunteer time
    • Double Plot (approx. 300 sf) - $150 +2 hours/month of volunteer time
    • Plot Scholarship - 2 hours/month of volunteer time
    • Work Trade - 2 hours/month of volunteer time + 10 additional hours for each 75-150 sf plot

    We have a limited number of scholarships available, you can also elect to fulfill your membership dues with a Work Trade. 

    If you choose to do a Work Trade, in addition to the required 2 hours per month, you will be required to commit to 10 hours for each 75-150 sf plot your have. E.g. if you have two (2) 150 sf plots and elect to use this option you will need to contribute 20 hours in addition to the 2 hours a month over the course of the season.     All monies go towards the garden's projects, maintenance, and management.

    Registration will direct you through a series of pages, ending with your plot request. Please make sure you complete all steps.
