Junior Master Gardener Program

We are excited to announce that, through a collaboration with 4-H, we are going to be implementing the Junior Master Gardener Program at schools in La Plata County! Second graders will participate in six lessons at Fort Lewis Mesa Elementary School, Needham Elementary School, and Animas Valley Elementary School. These hands-on lessons are tied to Colorado State standards while promoting service learning, volunteerism, and inquiry based knowledge.  These will be taught throughout the school year by a combination of our school garden staff and Colorado gardeners!

Attention Colorado gardeners! Are you interested in becoming a volunteer garden educator at elementary schools in La Plata County? This school year, we are going to deliver six lessons to every second grade class at Needham Elementary, Fort Lewis Mesa Elementary, and Animas Valley Elementary. If you are interested, come to our first meeting on Wednesday, September 6 from 12pm-2pm at the Florida Room in the La Plata County Fairgrounds. If you are unable to attend the meeting but would still like to be a volunteer garden educator, contact Taylor Henzler at [email protected]

. We look forward to seeing you there!
