Junior Master Gardener Program

We are excited to announce that, through a collaboration with 4-H, we are going to be implementing the Junior Master Gardener Program at schools in La Plata County! Second graders will participate in six lessons at Fort Lewis Mesa Elementary School, Needham Elementary School, and Animas Valley Elementary School. These hands-on lessons are tied to Colorado State standards while promoting service learning, volunteerism, and inquiry based knowledge.  These will be taught throughout the school year by a combination of our school garden staff and Colorado gardeners!

Moving forward, all of our school garden programming will be in partnership with 4H! This collaboration will allow us to give students more resources and experiences in gardening, agriculture, science, and life skills. Programs such as Dirt Club and Junior Gardener Summer Camp will now fall under the Junior Master Gardener's programming umbrella.
