The Education Pavilion is complete!
A central piece to the Ohana Kuleana Community Garden is education. We hold monthly workshops for garden and community members, the Boys and Girls Club joins us for a summer education series, and Riverview Elementary students are in the garden weekly during the school year.
After some afternoon workshops spent baking in the sun we knew we needed shade (and shelter from the rain on those precious afternoons when it thunderstorms).
So here it is, the Education Pavilion.
Complete with benches and tables (tables not pictured)
|Designed and built by Kelly Mathews of Straw House Builders, the Education Pavilion was built with local, horse-logged Ponderosa Pine from fire mitigation areas and treated with a non-toxic preservative, Lifetime. Sandstone blocks set the base. The design is influenced by Japanese aesthetics. All-in-all a beautiful, sturdy, and useful structure!|

Kelly's philosophy is "simplicity, simplicity, simplicity." Smaller is better and small is beautiful. With over 18 years of experience building strawbale homes his true passion is garden structures such as the OKCG Educational Pavilion.
The Pavilion would not have been possible without a generous grant from the Colorado Garden Foundation.
The Boys and Girls Club also partnered with us to provide funding.
THANKS to Colorado Garden Foundation and the Boys & Girls Club for making this important piece of the community garden possible!
